I came across this particular term quite by accident. I was looking up a word in the dictionary (in the old days when they were hard copy books). One of the page headings was “object trouve.” It caught my attention and I’ve remembered it ever since. In a sense, it was its own randomly found object. Similarly, browsing a physical bookstore or library or taking a different route home, you can discover some of the best things you were never looking for.
During the pandemic of 2020, I took advantage of the opportunity to take many walks in the neighborhood. In the spirit of hope, neighbors had left small painted rocks, chalk art, and pieces of beauty in random locations along the bike paths.
