Slowing

“Less is more.” No, it flippin’ well isn’t! It’s not supposed to be. But it can be better. It can be deeper.

After being assaulted with all the shopping messages, the racing around, perhaps too much partying, are you ready for a break? We chase after so many things hoping to fill a void, but they mostly don’t. It’s like drinking from a fire hose, but not swallowing any of the water. Drinking from a regular hose is enough of a challenge. Too much, too fast, too little opportunity to absorb.

Less is not more. Less can make space for noticing. For appreciating. For thoughtfully deciding on what is really needed or desired. This is not a new concept. Think monks, Marie Kondo, new year’s diets, the last time you had to move.

Over the next few days, can you carve out some time for slowing, selecting, and savoring?

Besides having a clear out of the old stuff (whether clothes or calories), what can you stop chasing after and accumulating in the new year that you will just have to deal with later?
