Months ago I saw a job posting for a “Director of Belonging.” What a great job title! Although the specific job description was not one I was interested in, I remained intrigued by the title.
Belongingness is really important to me. Having a tribe where you resonate with the people or cause. If you’re old enough to remember, a neighborhood bar where “everyone knows your name.”
How do you create that? I assure you it is not by company mandate that we are all “family.” Yet we spend much time at work, at our places of worship, in our neighborhoods. What little actions might we take that contribute to the overall sense of belonging in the people around us?
