I recently started thinking about belongings I have for the wrong reasons. SWAG and giveaways – because they were free. Thrift store finds. Gifts from people who didn’t like me in the first place. Rather than cleaning out closets just because they are too full (they are) of things I haven’t used in years (I haven’t), I started thinking about why I have them in the first place and why I hang onto them.
Slowly I am pruning things that I own for the wrong reasons. Along with them, I’m recognizing things that have served their purpose, thanking them for what they gave me, and forwarding them to bless someone else. I’m starting to own my belongings instead of them owning me.
