A Puddle Where There Shouldn’t Be

This morning I started to make my cup of tea, as usual. I noticed that my little teapot was somewhat crusty on the outside. That was odd, but I figured I’d spilled something. Then I reached for the sugar (read monk fruit) bowl and noticed it was wet on the bottom. I looked at the tray that sits on my counter and it was completely wet. Moreover, there was a puddle of water on the counter. I looked up at my ceiling and realized the upstairs neighbors (I live in a condo) must have had a leak in their kitchen.

Sure enough. While I hate ringing their doorbell first thing in the morning, they came down and looked at the ceiling and at least turned off the water so we didn’t have any more puddles.

Life has its share of hassles. This is not the first time I have had an upstairs apartment leak into mine. While I don’t have to pay for the ceiling repair, I will have to be home for the repair person and deal with the mess. This kind of stuff used to stress me out a lot more than it does now. It is not convenient, but it is also not the most important thing in the world in the grand scheme of things.

I am thankful that my neighbors were responsive. I am thankful that someone else knows how to fix the ceiling so I don’t have to. I am thankful I have some flexibility with work to be home for the repair. I know not everyone is so fortunate. However, what “annoying but not really the end of the world” thing in your life is causing you stress that you could “let go of”?

This is so wise. We get wrapped up in the annoyances of day to day life that we forget to be thankful for all the people who help us fix them. Thanks for the reminder!
