You know the drill – for many of us the goal was to collect as much loot as you possibly can. You watch as kindly neighbors drop candy into your bag – hopefully the good stuff. You say “thank you” and race off to the next house.
At some point however, it’s time to stop and go home. Once you get home you can survey your stash and sort through it. Maybe you organized it, maybe you just rummaged through the bag for your preferred kind of candy. And maybe your parents rationed the subsequent consumption.
My life has been kind of like that. Racing through at 90 miles an hour, collecting experiences. Maybe sampling one or two, but always onto the next one. At some point, however, it’s time to stop and survey the collection and sort through it. The past few years have been like that. Sorting through and processing things that just got thrown in the bag with everything else. Weeding out some of the less desirable stuff. Reexamining some things I once thought were so great.
And now slowing down to take on the next experiences more slowly, intentionally, and thoughtfully.
